How to Prepare for a Mock Interview

A mock interview is a practice interview, but you should treat it as seriously as you would a real job interview. Consider the practice interview to be a dress rehearsal. To ace your mock interview, keep the following points in mind:

Select the best fake interviewer. It’s simple to ask a friend or family member, but if you want objective and honest input, you should ask someone who has interviewed job prospects before. You might also select a professional from your industry.

Select a professional environment. You’ll need a location that mimics an office setting.

Arrive early. Arrive at least 15 minutes early.

Bring the required things. Bring your résumé and any other documentation you may require. Bring a notepad as well so you can take notes on your pretend interviewer’s criticism.

Dress formally and sharply. Dress in the same manner as you would for the actual interview.

Prepare but do not memorize answers to frequent interview questions. You don’t want to sound like a robot by using canned responses. Remember that you’re having an interview not to take a test, but to have a conversation to see whether you’re a good fit for the position.
